Automatic Number Identification (ANI) and Dialed Number Identification Service (DNIS) identify numbers that are transmitted on an incoming trunk from the Central Office (CO).
ANI provides the caller's telephone number (and name if supported); DNIS provides the number dialed by the caller. The ANI/DNIS/ISDN Number Delivery feature allows the system to identify and use these digits when they are received.
NOTE: Not all incoming trunks provide ANI/DNIS digits (see ANI/DNIS Protocols).
The ANI/DNIS feature supports MCI and US Sprint standards. US Sprint trunks carry both ANI and DNIS numbers, and MCI trunks carry ANI numbers only.
The ANI/DNIS feature interacts with the following:
Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)
Digital Private Network Signaling System
HOST COMMAND INTERFACE® (HCI®)
Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR)
The system can route DID calls based on the DNIS number.
The following system resources and applications can use ANI/DNIS information:
IP display telephones
and consoles
Prime and non-prime directory numbers as well as key line and multiline
appearances of directory numbers
